Henry Heerup's art is characterized by both its playful, popular dimensions and its experimental avant-garde features, which are clearly evident in an art historical context. The anthology "Henry Heerup and the Avant-garde" explores both these aspects.
The book is a collaboration between three museums: Heerup Museum, Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt's Museum, and Sorø Kunstmuseum, which launched related Heerup exhibitions in 2015-2016. The anthology takes its starting point from the themes of the three exhibitions without being an actual catalogue.
