The book is number 6 in a series about art in the Nordic countries. The author Thor Vilhjalmsson was born in Edinburgh, but now lives in Reykjavik.
Svavar Guðnason was Icelandic, but he lived many years outside of Iceland. When he lived in Copenhagen for a number of years, he was, among others, friends with Else Alfelt and Carl-Henning Pedersen. Svavar Guðnason belonged to the circle of Cobra painters.
The biography paints a picture of an artist who grew up in and with nature, and of his paintings, which never broke their connection to the howling storm, the light of day, the forces of nature, the melting ice, and life as it took shape under these conditions.
The book is richly illustrated.
