Throughout her life, Else Alfelt was preoccupied with the elements of nature, and with her very unique style, she helped define abstract art in Denmark from the 1930s until her death in 1974. The motif is an excerpt from the work "Peaks Reaching for the Sky", created in 1949, when she was active in the international Cobra movement.
"Mountains are a boundary between the real and the unreal, they are the place where heaven and earth meet (...) When I am in the mountains, I have a fantastic sense of all times. There is nothing time-bound, I believe that this is how it was from the very beginning, and this is how it will be at the very end. It is something certain in a world that is otherwise constantly changing."
