Throughout her life, Else Alfelt was fascinated by the elements of nature, and with her unique style, she helped define abstract art in Denmark from the 1930s until her death in 1974. The motif is a detail from the work "Peaks Reaching Towards the Sky", created in 1949, when she was active in the international Cobra movement.
"Mountains are a boundary between the real and the unreal; they are the place where heaven and earth meet (...) When I go into the mountains, I have an amazing sense of all times. There is nothing time-bound; I believe that this is how it was at the very beginning, and this is how it will be at the very end. It is something certain in a world that is otherwise constantly changing."
