With his groundbreaking spontaneous-abstract paintings from the latter half of the 1930s, Egill Jacobsen spearheaded development in Danish art among his peers. This led to a new "abstract" painting style, which, via the Cobra movement, came to influence European art in the decades after 1950.

In "Egill Jacobsen 3," Per Hovdenakk provides an overview of Egill Jacobsen's life. The book is a catalogue raisonné of Egill Jacobsen's paintings from 1980-1998. Egill Jacobsen did not exhibit much during that period, and these paintings, primarily sold to private collectors, are therefore largely unknown to the general public.

Per Hovdenakk has previously written "Egill Jacobsen 1: Paintings 1928-65" and "Egill Jacobsen 2: Paintings 1965-80".
