The book was published in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt Museum.
In this book, curator Per Hovdenakk provides a brief overview of how the five Cobra painters Else Alfelt, Carl-Henning Pedersen, Egill Jacobsen, Asger Jorn, and Svavar Guðnason started their artistic careers.
There is an independent section on each of the five Cobra painters in the book, which also covers Cobra as a group – its socially critical and collectively experimental aspects. The "abstracts" met and analyzed each other's paintings, freely borrowing ideas from one another and experimenting with them in their own work. Often, a theme can be seen migrating across several artists' works.
